WILLS AND POWERS OF ATTORNEY

Key Benefits

bulletWILLS dispose of property on death. There are two main elements of a will. First, the will determines who receives property. Secondly, the will identifies an estate trustee (formerly known as an executor) who will administer the estate.
bulletPOWERS OF ATTORNEY FOR PROPERTY grant an "attorney" (usually a spouse or trusted friend or relative) the ability to act on behalf of the "donor" (the person giving the power of attorney.) Powers of attorney for property are used when the donor is unable to look after his or her own affairs for reason of illness or accident. Powers of attorney for property are also used when the donor is not available.
bulletPOWERS OF ATTORNEY FOR PERSONAL CARE grant an attorney the ability to make health care decisions in circumstances where the donor is unable to act on his or her own.
